Battery waste is a growing problem worldwide. Tens of millions of tons of e-waste are produced each year, yet only a small portion is properly recycled, leaving many batteries to end up in landfills where they can leak toxic materials or cause fires. At the same time, many usable batteries are discarded even though they could still provide safe, low-power energy. With power outages becoming more common, access to simple emergency power sources matters more than ever. Batteries4Better was created to address both issues at once by safely repurposing discarded batteries into emergency power devices and teaching communities how to handle battery waste responsibly.
